Ben is the Deputy Chief Executive of the social enterprise Unloc which he cofounded when he was 19. Unloc’s mission is to empower every young person to be a changemaker through the delivery of innovative education programmes for young people across the UK in the areas of developing leadership, building entrepreneurship, bolstering youth voice, and opening minds to the careers and employability opportunities available; working with schools, colleges, universities, businesses and public sector bodies to do so.
Ben is also Chief Operating Officer and cofounder of Global:Edge, empowering the next generation of leaders to navigate, embrace, and drive positive change in an ever-evolving global landscape. With a strong foundation in the British education system, Global:Edge provides a cutting-edge curriculum to english-speaking international schools that is globally minded, while seeking to challenge outdated conventions and norms.
When he was 20, Ben was elected to Portsmouth City Council and served two terms from 2014 to 2022. Ben held various roles on the council including as the Cabinet Member for Planning, Regeneration and Economic Development, as Chair of the city’s Employment Committee, as the city’s Deputy Lord Mayor, and as the Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Economic Development.
Ben believes in leading by example at a local level and currently does so as a non-executive director for a social housing provider in South London (Eldon Housing), trustee of a small almshouses charity (Portsmouth & District Friendly Societies Homes), and as a Local Leader for the Franco-British Council. He has previously been a school governor, a director of a community coffee shop, a director of the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership, a non-executive director of Portico - a deep water cargo terminal, and a trustee of a charity dedicated to the protection of green spaces.
Ben also holds a BA Modern History and Politics degree from the University of Southampton.
